If you have a minute, you should see the CDC's animated map showing how rapidly the obesity rate went up in the US. Below is a taste of that map: in 15 years, we went from a situation in which every single state in the U.S. had less than 20% of the population are obese, to one where every single state has a population where at least 20% of the population are obese.
I worry about obesity because despite the increased health consciousness of people like you, your friends and family, and really our society, obesity keeps getting worse. I thought we might be turning the tide. But no. We lost our last blue state between 2009 and 2010. I don't 'blue state' in terms of politics, but rather a state that had less than 1 in 5 of its population in the 'obese' category. That state was Colorado. Another big change in such that one year? In 2009, 9 states had the situation where about 1 in 3 of its citizens (or greater than 30%) were obese. In 2010, 12 states had that same situation.
