Turmeric can slow some cancers
After showing how components of spices used in Indian cooking can help the body control inflammation, Dr. Aggarwal's teams studied whether curcumin can help conventional chemotherapies shrink cancers.
At M.D. Anderson and other academic centers, early trials in have been demonstrating that purified high-dose curcumin from turmeric powder is safe, low on side effects, and most importantly helps conventional chemotherapies suppress the growth of some head and neck, breast, and pancreatic cancers.
Dr. Aggarwal believes that work being done in the ensuing years will reveal the power of spices in terms of preventing and treating disease.
